"I'm still alive, she said" : The Brusque Entry
I'm fine -- nothing much has changed since last time I wrote -- and more to the point, Mom-sub-B is fine. She's cheerful, she's doped (by which I mean "denauseated") on wonderdrugs that enable her to keep working while getting chemo and radiation, she has a kewl wig, and the tumor may even be shrinking. Also she was getting tired of seeing my October cancer entry everytime she checked to see if I'd written something new, and that's sort of why I'm posting this now.
Why haven't I written anything since October? Because my schedule sucks like a sucking thing. I spend 8-10 hours at school every weekday except Thursday, and on Thursday I'm so tired that I collapse and sleep as soon as I get home in the mid-morning. On the weekends I go downtown to interview people about Las Vegas, so I'm not home much then, either.
Of course I'm not in classes the whole time I'm at school, but my commitments are arranged just cleverly enough to make it hard to go back home in the middle of the day. The problem with being at school all day is that it's hard to take a break and relax, and trekking over to a public coffee-free computer lab to write a journal entry and check e-mail is not particularly appealing. There have been several times this quarter when I've gone over 48 hours without checking my e-mail, surely a thing unheard of in this day and age. But here's the larger problem: Being generally unable to relax at school means that I have trouble keeping up my efficiency for more than a few hours, that I can't take a nap even when I really need one, that I tend to drink coffee constantly because the coffee shop has some of the only adequate chairs on campus, and that I arrive home drained and useless. So that's that.
I just posted an entry that I wrote over Christmas break, but given that my schedule isn't going to change much until the middle of March, who knows when the next update will be. I'm totally gonna finish the interview meme someday, though.
