Did anyone else's circadian rhythms make a sudden change in their mid twenties? Because this year I've been going through a lot of days caught in the same perpetual cold-pill daze that stretched from seventh grade until I discovered caffeine. The problem is that lately drinking coffee and snacking to promote alertness haven't been working, nor have the other things I usually do when I'm feeling out of it. Then in the late afternoon or after dinner, without having gotten any additional sleep, I'll suddenly WAKE UP. And then I do good work until Ted goes to bed and I join him for the snug. The problem with all this is that normally I do my best work early in the morning, like at 4 or 5 AM, and get less done as the day progresses. There may be advantages to joining the rest of the world's sleep schedule, like being able to talk intelligently and remember new information after 6 PM. One time I taught a 6:00 section and it took me most of the quarter to learn their names, while I learned the names of my other 3 sections after a couple weeks. It's bad, though, if my most productive work hours turn out to be the same ones that I get to spend with Mr. Schlafmanko. But mostly I'm just weirded out and wondering if I need to change the habits I schedule my days with.

(none of this is true today, though -- if it were, I'd be unable to write about it, because I'd be playing spider solitaire)
